What are periorbital lines?
Crow’s Feet lines appear when we laugh or squint due to the contraction and release of a circular muscle around the eye. The most obvious lines appear at the outer side of each eye, often creasing in the same form of a “crow’s foot”. These are often referred to as laugh lines as they are most noticeable while smiling and laughter.
Crow’s Feet lines appear during expressive movement of the circular eye muscle. The main muscle here is called orbicularis oculi, and it is the sphincter muscle that encompasses each eye.
How do periorbital lines impact our appearance?
The visibility of crow’s feet lines accelerate the older appearance in an individual. Because the skin around the eyes are much thinner than the rest of the face, the elasticity of skin is unable to bounce back to its original state. While these fine lines show a dimension of character when smiling or laughing, they are one of our most impactful tell-tale signs of aging when visible as a permanent crease when the face is at rest.
